Abstract- In this lab report, we take 2 dice and roll them 100 times to see what combinations come out the most. Rolling these dice 100 times came out with a wide range of numbers 4-10 but the one that occurs the most is the number 7. The number that appeared the most when rolling 2 dice was the number 7, which appeared a total of 17 times out of the 100.

Introduction- Dice rolling is a classic example of a probability experiment and is used in a lot of different situations and fields. This involves rolling 2 dice and recording the outcome of the result. The results are numbers that are produced by these 2 dice. We are conducting this experiment to see the probability of obtaining certain outcomes when rolling the dice, this will overall help us get a better understanding of probability and how the random outcomes may affect in different fields.

Materials

  1. Rolling dice simulator
  2. Sheet of paper
  3. A pencil

Methods

  1. I ran a rolling dice simulation 100 times to obtain these results.
  2. Once all the results were obtained, I tallied every different outcome to see which one occurred most out of the others.

The number 7 had the most outcomes when rolling dice!!!

Figure 1

Figure 2

According to my hypothesis, I expected that the number 7 would be the outcome that occurs the most when rolling dice because that is the number with the most combinations that can sum up to the number 7 with the 2 dice. The experiment conducted supported my hypothesis as it was the outcome that came out the most as a total of 17 times out of the 100 dice rolls. This shows that when you are rolling a dice that you will most likely get a sum of 7 as your result from rolling the 2 dice.

Other experiments and studies have been done and they have very different results. They have different numbers that may have appeared more than the number 7, an example of this is from an experiment conducted by Stanislav Lukac & Radovan Engel Pavol Jozef Safarik University, Slovakia and it is called “Investigation of probability distributions using dice rolling simulations.” In this experiment that they conducted they were trying to see the reason why sometimes a certain result occurs more than the other. By doing that they were rolling dice, checking the frequency etc. In order to produce their results and make their experiment credible.

Conclusion- After conducting this experiment about the probability of the result of rolling 2 dice, 100 times and recording each result. My hypothesis was correct and supported through experiment stating that the outcome that will occur the most by rolling 2 dice would be the number 7. As a matter of fact the number 7 occurred 17 times out of the 100, the reason being for the number 7 to occur is because it has the most combinations to add up to 7, that being said you are more likely to get 7 as the result from rolling 2 dice. Taking that information to account this could help people with other studies, in day to day lives.
